Rothman Announces Erford Road Bridge Project Improvements
3/28/2016
HARRISBURG –State Representative Greg Rothman (R-Cumberland), working with East Pennsboro Township officials, Senator Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York) persuaded PennDOT District 8 officials, to modify plans to renovate the Erford Road Bridge over the Camp Hill Bypass.

The new project will widen the Erford Road Bridge to three lanes instead of two with an additional center turning lane, a sidewalk will be built to increase pedestrian access and four-foot shoulders will be added. The original plan for a superstructure replacement to improve the structural integrity of the bridge which only had two lanes like the existing bridge in 1965.

“I would like to thank PennDOT and the East Pennsboro Township commissioners for their willingness to work together on this project. The additions of a center turning lane, shoulders and sidewalks will increase safety and improve the local economy by increasing access to area businesses,” said Rothman. “This project will have a long-lasting impact for our community and serves as a positive example of government efficiency. East Pennsboro Township Commissioner George Tyson was integral to moving this project forward and his leadership should be applauded.”

PennDOT anticipates this project will open for bids later this year. The Erford Road Bridge project is a design/build project, where final design will be completed by the contractor that is awarded the project. Construction will then likely begin in the summer of 2017.

“The importance of Representative Rothman’s involvement in this proposal is critical. The additions to the Erford Road Bridge project will benefit East Pennsboro Township residents for years to come. Representative Rothman’s assistance with PennDOT officials helped make our shared vision for a more vibrant local economy and a safer community a reality. I thank him for all of his efforts,” said Commissioner George Tyson.
