Rothman Supports Taxpayers’ Budget
HARRISBURG – Following a press conference today by a select group of Republican colleagues to unveil a plan to cover the approximately $2.2 billion funding gap in this year’s budget without the need to borrow money or raise taxes, Rep. Greg Rothman (R-Cumberland) issued the following statement:

“I am proud to support the Taxpayers’ Budget group and their alternative solution to resolve our state budget deficit without the need to raise taxes and borrow money. The Taxpayers’ Budget plan presented today took more than six weeks to formulate, and accomplishes the goal of covering budget expenses through the use of lapsed funds and surpluses found in various state government accounts.

“Instead of letting this money continue to sit idle, we can use the funds to finish the budget and close the shortfall from last year’s budget. Borrowing money or increasing tax rates is not the responsible answer. The discovery of these surplus and lapsed accounts is the answer. I commend my House colleagues for their hard work and support them in bringing this plan across the finish line.”

The Taxpayers’ Budget will be evaluated by the entire House and potentially voted on when the House returns to session next week.
