Rothman Announces Committee Assignments, Deputy Whip Appointment for 2019-20 Legislative Session
1/18/2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Greg Rothman (R-Cumberland) was assigned to serve on five standing committees during the 2019-20 legislative session: Appropriations, Insurance, Liquor Control, Transportation and Urban Affairs.

“I’m thrilled to now be serving on the Appropriations and Insurance committees, in addition to the other committees I served on in the last legislative session. I’m committed to fighting for a responsible state budget that spends within our means, and ensuring Pennsylvanians have affordable and quality health care and insurance,” Rothman said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on these important issues.”

The House Appropriations Committee is the primary committee of the General Assembly tasked with overseeing state government spending, state fiscal policies and developing a state budget each fiscal year.

The House Transportation Committee is responsible for reviewing vehicle code regulations, mandatory insurance and coverage minimums, rules of the road, PennDOT planning, and numerous other transportation issues.

The House Insurance Committee helps oversee the Insurance Department and ensure any legislation running through the House that pertains to insurance matters is studied with extreme care.

“Serving on the Liquor Control Committee gave me the opportunity to be part of liquor law liberalization and de-regulation efforts, and being part of the Transportation and Urban Affairs committees allowed me to make Cumberland County’s voice heard as we dealt with numerous transportation issues in the district and fought efforts to raise taxes on commuters,” Rothman added.

The Liquor Control Committee is responsible for issues relating to the administration of alcoholic beverage licenses and the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages.

The House Urban Affairs committee reviews legislation affecting the state’s largest cities.

Rothman is also pleased to announce that House Majority Whip Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) has appointed him to be a deputy whip for the 2019-20 session. Deputy whips have a variety of responsibilities, including aiding the Majority Whip in advancing important pieces of legislation and informing their fellow Republican colleagues on upcoming policy issues.
